Chapter 3: In Quest of a Solution
Summary: Sherlock and Watson go with Miss Morstan to the meeting and are taken to a decrepit looking house and greeted by a “Hindoo” servant.
Reaction: The atmosphere gives it extra mystery, and the racism makes it feel like something “classic”
Prediction: I think the mystery will get foggier before it gets clearer, to everyone but Sherlock, at least
Why This Book Is a Classic: Classic racism. We see some Oriental people made to look a bit silly. It’s not too awful, but it’s enough to make it dated.
